Gabriel Meluk, sports editor at El Tiempo in Colombia, recalled that Paolo Guerrero is currently sanction for doping and assured that this situation gives a "perverse and unreasoned" message.

"Incredible that Paolo Guerrero is a finalist for 'Player of America', a choice organized by the El País newspaper of Uruguay. A doped player! A doped and sanctioned player! At this moment, he is sanctioned! Fatal. A perverse and unreasoned message!", he wrote on his personal Twitter account.
The voting has already closed, and the sports journalists of the continent chose Paolo Guerrero as a finalist, along with the Brazilians Arthur (Gremio, who is the champion of the Copa Libertadores) and Luan (Gremio).
