A hidden facet of Mario Götze
When we hear the name Mario Götze, we immediately think of the forward of Borussia Dortmund. However, there is a little-known facet of the German football player, and he made it public in Berlin.
'Mario's big dream', his first illustrated book for children, was presented this Tuesday by the player who gave the 2014 World Cup to Germany with his goal in the final against Argentina.
"I have so much to thank football for all that it has given me that I would like to offer something to others," explained Götze.
"Children are very important to me because they symbolize the future. That's why I wanted to write a book about respect, tolerance, and openness of spirit," added the 25-year-old player.
Götze then read excerpts from his work to a group of school children at the Football Museum in Dortmund.
The book is about young Mario, who wants to become a professional player and be called up by the German national team. Along the way, he learns that money and victory are not the most important things in life.
"But it is not an autobiography," emphasized Götze.
Due to a torn ligament in his right knee suffered at the end of November, Götze will not play until the return of the Bundesliga in January after the winter break.
