Real Garcilaso finished second in the Torneo Descentralizado behind Alianza Lima, the new national champion of Peruvian soccer.
Although the Cusco team had an amazing campaign, coach Marcelo Grioni believes that they were robbed of the Torneo Apertura, which ended up in the hands of the blue and whites.
"I reiterate once again, they stole the Torneo Apertura from us. If I'm not mistaken, we came first in the accumulated table with 86 points. What am I going to ask of these guys? The Libertadores is a great consolation prize, it's not small. When we review the campaign we made, everyone will be happy," said Marcelo Grioni at a press conference.
"But I'm very happy with this squad. If they hadn't stolen the Apertura from us, we could have played in the final, but that's it. We lost key points against 'U' and Sport Huancayo too," emphasized Grioni.
It should be noted that Alianza Lima was the team that finished first in the accumulated table with 87 points, which allowed them to win their 23rd title. Real Garcilaso is left with only the ticket to the Copa Libertadores 2018 as Peru 2.
