The Argentine press laments the missed opportunity on Wednesday for Lanús to win their first Copa Libertadores and surrenders to the supremacy of Gremio, who won their third continental title.
"Lanús' dream was frustrated and Gremio is the new champion of the Copa Libertadores," titled the newspaper La Nación.
"There will be a before and an after in the life of Gremio after the night of November 29, 2017, marked by the achievement of their third Libertadores title after those achieved in 1983 and 1995."
The digital edition of Clarín chose to headline: "Lanús was far from another feat and Gremio is the champion," with a text that highlights the performance of the visitors and states: "The Brazilians won 2-1 in the South, against an Almirón team that showed a much inferior level than the one that took them to the final."
The sports newspaper Olé, with a photo of Lanús players crying, headlines: "Granate tears" in line with their nickname 'Granate', while in the text it states: "Lanús' dream of winning the Libertadores for the first time is over: Gremio was much better throughout the series, won 3-1 overall, and celebrated in the South. It was worth it, guys."
The digital version of Infobae highlights that José Sand was the top scorer of the tournament but that Lanús remained "at the doors of touching the sky" by losing the final to "an expeditious and efficient Gremio.
