One of the most remembered Peru vs. Argentina matches took place in 1978, where the 'gauchos' beat the 'bicolor' 6-0. In response to this, a few weeks ago, José Velásquez dared to recount some not so well-known stories, "the match was fixed," he said.

After these statements, which were surely unpleasant for the Argentinians, the former World Cup player, Alberto Tarantini, became furious and called him a "coward."

"It is disrespectful of José Velásquez to talk about a teammate, to say that I spoke to the coach to have him removed (Quiroga). Accusing a teammate seems cowardly to me. Justifying the 6-0 because Quiroga was the goalkeeper seems like a lack of respect. It is completely out of place," said Alberto Tarantini.

He then added: "That is cowardly, to talk nonsense about a person. If the coach took you out, it's because you chickened out on the field. To question (the result) and say that a president went to your dressing room and that you were 'pressured.' For football, you don't exist. If you had something to say, you should have said it 40 years ago. What you're doing is terrible cowardice."
