The protagonist of the Dutch football in Europe has grown exponentially after her announcement to Barcelona. In addition, on Thursday she received the award for the best player of last season.

She was the star of the last Eurocup. She drew attention as the main leader of the host team. She started as a starter in the six matches that led the Dutch team to the title and helped with three goals and two assists to their continental coronation. But not only did she leave the tournament as champion: Lieke Martens was also recognized as MVP.

"It has been a spectacular summer for me and for the Netherlands," she admitted last Tuesday after joining the Barcelona discipline in Sant Joan Despí. In Montecarlo, after receiving the award, she said: "It's incredible, a great honor, I'm proud. I wouldn't have achieved it without my teammates. I have no words, I'm very happy."

Lieke Martens, however, will make her debut in the Barcelona shirt after being awarded as the best player of the year in Europe. The 24-year-old player from Nieuw-Bergen was among the candidates for the award given by UEFA along with Danish Pernille Harder and German Dzsenifer Marozsán.

CHARACTERISTICS: Lieke Martens is a player who combines speed and verticality, with exquisite technique. She usually plays with her weak foot from the left side and is skillful in one-on-one situations thanks to her good use of both feet.
