Peruvian national team would play against Bolivia at the Monumental Stadium despite efforts from the FPF.

Marc Anthony and Carlos Vives would get away with it and the Peruvian national team would be the one affected. The concert of these renowned artists, scheduled for the 12th of this month at the Estadio Nacional, finally will not be moved so that the national team has the ideal turf to host Bolivia on the 31st for the Eliminatories. Therefore, the possibility of moving the match to the Monumental stadium, home of Universitario de Deportes, is gaining more and more strength.

Anthony and Vives concert could affect Peru's national team

Marc Anthony and Carlos Vives would get away with it and the Peruvian national team would be the one affected. It turns out that the concert of these renowned artists, scheduled for the 12th of this month at the National Stadium, would not be moved so that the team could have the ideal grass to face Bolivia on the 31st for the Eliminatories. Therefore, the possibility of moving the match to the Monumental Stadium, owned by Universitario de Deportes, is gaining strength.

For this reason, a group of workers from the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) was yesterday in the Ate venue to evaluate the grass and begin working to have it in the best possible condition, despite the Federation insisting on playing at the National Stadium.

In addition, the president of the FPF, Edwin Oviedo, met yesterday afternoon with the Minister of Education, Marilú Martens, to explain, approximately for an hour and a half, the reasons why the Peruvian national team should have priority over the concert scheduled for the National Stadium.

After the meeting, Oviedo said that there is a possibility of a new meeting, "we hope tomorrow (today) or the day after tomorrow at the latest" to define the venue.

Oviedo accused IPD

The head of the Peruvian Football Federation, after his conversation with Minister Martens, accused the IPD of "removing the national team from the National Stadium".

"We are indignant, as there is no real willingness to fix this situation," said the FPF president.

"At the IPD they told us that canceling the concert would incur a $500,000 fine. When we tried to pay it, we received the contract and discovered that there is no such penalty," said the national leader.

Facts

  • Paolo Guerrero was injured yesterday in the match between Flamengo and Santos.
  • Antonio García Pye, national teams manager, said that Gareca approved the possibility of playing at the Monumental: "If we don't have the National Stadium, he wouldn't have any problems".
