The Panamanian forward Rolando Blackburn, like Uruguayan Diego Ifrán, will not continue at Sporting Cristal during the Clausura Tournament, informed the president of the club Federico Cúneo on Tuesday.
"Ifrán's contract ended in late August, but he didn't have space. The same goes for Rolando Blackburn. We would've loved for him to stay, but we had to negotiate with Saprissa (from Costa Rica) and another club," said the president of Sporting Cristal in statements quoted by local media.
Federico Cúneo added that the decision not to renew the permanence of these players was made because Sporting Cristal wants to "recover players" that they have loaned to other local teams, due to their discreet campaign in the Apertura, in which they are currently in seventh place with two rounds remaining.
He also revealed that among the players that Sporting Cristal coach Pablo Zegarra wants to have back is forward Alexander Succar, currently on loan at Universidad San Martín.
"Succar has to return at the end of the tournament (Apertura). We have to reach an agreement between the three parties, along with San Martín, but he is a Sporting Cristal player," he said.
Cúneo said that there is also "the possibility" of signing Argentine forward Bernardo Cuesta, who played for Melgar until last year and has been playing in the Colombian football with Junior de Barranquilla in recent months.
"He knows the environment and is an option for us, he could be a good addition, but he is not the only one. We are happy with our top scorer Ávila, who is the top scorer of the tournament, and whoever arrives will have a tough time," said the president of Sporting Cristal.
The leader stated that Sporting Cristal is looking to strengthen their defense and offense, but emphasized that "priority is given to those from the club".
"I always expect more from Sporting Cristal, just like the fans. The expectation is there, the line is there, and this is just one tournament. We still have the Clausura and we will try to win it to play the final with the winner of this tournament," Federico Cúneo concluded.
