Alliance Lima: criticized for their style of play, but numerically they are the best of the 2017 Descentralizado [VIDEO].

Lunes 31 de Julio del 2017

This year, Alianza Lima has been heavily criticized for its style of play, but the numbers support Pablo Bengoechea. Don't you think?

How many times have we heard that 'football is won with goals', or the often repeated 'football is not about deserving it'. Well, the present of Alianza Lima is the response and the reason to all those popular phrases because Pablo Bengoechea's team may not have a polished game and sometimes may even be defensive, but the numbers say that, by far, it is the best team in the 2017 Descentralizado.

Looking at the Apertura Tournament table and the accumulated table, we realize that the blanquiazules have the best numbers in 7 out of 10 items that determine who is the best team so far this year. In the other three, they are not the best, but they are in second place, in a supposed standings table.

If we take each of the classification points from the standings table as a reference, we see that Alianza Lima is the team with the most wins in the Apertura Tournament, the one with the fewest losses this year, the one with the most goals scored, the one with the fewest goals conceded, and the one with the best goal difference in the Apertura and the Accumulated table.

With all these numbers, there is no way to criticize Pablo Bengoechea's team. Difficult. As former blanquiazul coach Guillermo Sanguinetti said after winning the 2014 Summer Tournament, "The show is winning" and after 10 years without titles, what else can matter now?

Luis Aguiar spoke in Uruguay about the greatness of Alianza Lima and the possibility of returning to Peñarol
