In a very tight but exciting match, Ayacucho and Cantolao played the first game of Saturday's tenth round of the Opening Tournament. The score ended goalless, but there were many goal opportunities from the start. With this draw, Cantolao continues to struggle in the standing, while Francisco Melgar's team remains in the middle of the table.
Ayacucho was more dominant in the first 45 minutes, shown through their attackers and with William Mimbela posing a threat to Nicosia's goal. The home team had the clearest penalty opportunity, however, Villasanti missed the chance and received a yellow card in the 24th minute for a foul against the goalkeeper.
Nicosia was the standout player of the match. His ability in goal made him responsible for this score, and Cantolao thanked him for his performance once again under the posts.
At six minutes into the second half, Colombian Collazos heads the ball and hits the post. The visitors were more threatening and came very close to scoring the first goal, but Villasanti's participation was crucial in keeping the goal tally at zero.
Ayacucho has 11 points, while Cantolao remains with 6. Francisco Melgar's team will visit Unión Comercio in Nueva Cajamarca next Saturday. On the other hand, Cantolao will be looking for the three points against Sporting Cristal at the Miguel Grau Stadium in Callao.
