The Sao Paulo announces its dismissal
Sao Paulo announced the dismissal of its idol Rogerio Ceni as coach of the team, after entering the relegation zone of Brasileirao this weekend.
"Sao Paulo FC announces that Rogerio Ceni leaves the command of its main team. In his passage as a coach, Ceni demonstrated the dedication and commitment that characterized him as a player. We wish him good luck, he will always be one of the greatest idols in our history," said the entity.
"Respect and recognition for the greatness of Rogerio Ceni, as a historical figure of this institution, will be forever celebrated," added the note, signed by the club's president, Carlos Augusto de Barros e Silva.
Ceni, 44, was dismissed one day after losing 2-0 in Rio de Janeiro against Flamengo, a result that dropped Sao Paulo to seventeenth place in the standings, the first of the four indicating the relegation zone.
In eleven matchdays, Sao Paulo has eleven points with a balance of three wins, two draws and six losses, accumulating six consecutive winless matches.
In his first experience as a coach, Ceni took over as the coach of the three-time American champion in early January and, since then, was prematurely eliminated in the Campeonato Paulista, the Copa de Brasil and the Copa Sudamericana.
