Chemo del Solar is no longer the coach of Sporting Cristal, and the club announced Pablo Zegarra as interim coach. After this decision, 'Chorri' Palacios, former player of the team, agreed and explained his position.
Sporting Cristal: the reasons for 'Chemo' del Solar's departure
"Del Solar could not find a way to regain the team's confidence and joy after having those poor results at the international level (Copa Libertadores) and in the local tournament," he declared on Radio Ovación.
He added: "He couldn't change the mindset of the boys at Sporting Cristal, he didn't know how to find the point to be able to help the boys regain this."
About the choice of Pablo Zegarra as interim coach, 'Chorri' Palacios commented: "Pablo has earned it because of what he has done in the Reserves. He has the ability to help the team and hopefully he does well and finishes the year."
After obtaining his coaching title in Spain, Zegarra arrived at Sporting Cristal in 2014 to train the lower categories. One year later, he took over the Reserves team, where he has done quite well: in 2015 he finished in second place and in 2016 he won both the Promotional Tournament and the Centennial Model Cup. This season, he was also champion of the Reserve Summer Tournament.
