The Monumental Stadium has been considered among the list of the 10 legendary stadiums in South America by the sports newspaper 'As' from Spain. The ranking includes other great sports venues such as the Bombonera in Argentina or the Maracaná in Brazil.

To choose the list of the 10 largest football venues on the continent, their inception, their capacity, their events, among other aspects, were taken into account.

Venezuela is the only country that is not part of the list where the Monumental Stadium appears. Argentina has a double presence with the Monumental of River and La Bombonera of Boca.
