The national triathletes Vladimir Figari, Christopher Portugal, Salvador Ruiz, and Estefano Ratto were great participants in the Ironman 70.3 Peru competition, one of the most important triathlon events worldwide, which took place for the first time in Peru.
Figari secured his ticket to the World Championship in the 40-45 age category by finishing first; Christopher Portugal, in the 25-29 age category, finished second in his series; Salvador Ruiz won first place in the 30-35 age category; and Estefano Ratto also qualified for the 2017 Ironman 70.3 World Championship, which will be held in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The World Championship will be a two-day sporting event. On Saturday, September 9, 2017, the women's professional category and the women's age group category will participate. On Sunday, September 10, the men's professional category and the women's age group category will participate.
The Sunday competition on Costa Verde had a high level of difficulty, where national and international athletes faced the open water (1900 m), asphalt cycling (90 km), and running (21 km).
