The president of the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol), Alejandro Domínguez, announced on Wednesday that Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay will host the opening matches of the 2030 World Cup, when the centenary of this global football event is celebrated. "We believed in greatness. The Centennial World Cup 2030 begins where it all started. Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay will be hosting the inaugural matches of the #CentennialWorldCup," he wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) social media account.
Regarding the announcement by the football boss, many were left wondering about the direct qualification of Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay for being the host nations. For some, they already had a guaranteed spot in the 2030 World Cup. For others, they still had to compete in the South American qualifiers.
