The renowned former goalkeeper of the Paraguayan national team and Vélez Sarsfield only had 0.8% of the votes with 99.9% of the ballot boxes counted.
Chilavert, who retired in 2004 and is now 57 years old, was a candidate for the Youth Force Party. Despite being internationally recognized, in his first attempt to reach the presidency, he also did not have enough support in the previous polls.
In June of last year, he presented his independent precandidacy for the internal elections in December. His political project included strengthening education, improving healthcare, maintaining macroeconomic stability, improving the energy sector, and addressing insecurity in the country, proposals that did not resonate with the population.
