Intact Quality. In just a few days, Roque Santa Cruz will turn 41 years old; however, his age has not been a reason for him to lose relevance or technical quality. Last Saturday, the Paraguayan forward had an outstanding performance in Libertad's victory over Sol de América and scored a true goal of the century.
The 'Gumarelo' defeated Sol de América by a resounding 4-1 in the sixth round of the Paraguayan First Division, in a match played at the Tigo La Huerta Stadium in Asunción, a result that placed them in second place in the standings.
The Argentine Emiliano Ozuna opened the scoring in the 14th minute of the first half for the visiting team, but it didn't take long for the reaction from Daniel Garnero's team. Lorenzo Melgarejo equalized the match in the 20th minute before Libertad's goal avalanche in the second half.
In the 79th minute, a masterful assist from the also historic Óscar Cardozo was well taken advantage of by Santa Cruz, who dribbled past three defenders, deceived the goalkeeper, and finished with the hierarchy that has always characterized him.
In the final stretch, in the 84th and 90+4th minutes, Cardozo would become the figure of the match by scoring a brace to seal his team's victory.
With this result, Libertad has 12 points in the Paraguayan championship standings, at the end of the sixth round. Next Sunday, August 21, they will have to visit Nacional at the Arsenio Erico Stadium (La Visera) in Asunción, a game in which their fans hope that both Óscar Cardozo and Roque Santa Cruz will once again have a remarkable performance.
