He's clear about it. The former Paraguayan goalkeeper and presidential pre-candidate José Chilavert has appealed the sentence of one year of suspended imprisonment imposed by a judge for defaming the president of Conmebol, Alejandro Domínguez, and requested its "absolute annulment."
This was reported on Thursday by the defense of José Luis Chilavert, who filed an appeal against the sentence imposed last May by Judge Manuel Aguirre.
Specifically, Chilavert's lawyers, Pedro Wilson Marinoni and Cristián Ayala, appealed, among other things, the jurisdiction of the single-person sentencing court presided over by Aguirre, as well as the declaration of the existence of the "defamation offense."
Appeal of Sentence by José Luis Chilavert
They also appealed the sentence of one year's deprivation of liberty, with probation of the execution of the sentence for a period of two years.
The ruling included the prohibition of leaving the country and changing domicile, as well as the obligation to sign the appearance book every three months.
In addition, it stipulated that José Luis Chilavert should not make "false and humiliating" allusions against Domínguez "through any means of communication."
"The contested sentence is based on the non-observance and/or erroneous application of legal precepts and the concrete violation of basic fundamental principles of law that lead to the absolute nullity of the sentence," the document states. It also requests that "the case be remanded for a new oral and public trial."
The demand by the president of the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) was based on statements made by Chilavert on social media between September and December 2020.
The former goalkeeper accused Alejandro Domínguez of corruption through his Twitter account and various media outlets in Argentina and Paraguay. (EFE)
