Peru has managed to hold the score and win 2-0 against Paraguay, thus securing a spot in the Qatar 2022 playoffs. Just like four years ago, the national team will have to play an extra match to fight for their ticket to this year's World Cup, and it will be against an Asian rival.

Before the match, tension and nervousness could be felt in the crowd that had gathered at the National Stadium to support Peru. However, things started to change once the team took the lead and the celebration began. When the referee blew the final whistle, a sense of relief was felt as the national team is still in the race.

The captain's words

At the end of the match, the whole team went to thank the fans for being there with them, cheering for them throughout the 90 minutes. One of the most emotional players was Pedro Gallese. The goalkeeper of the Peruvian National Team praised the work of his teammates and thanked the support of the fans, stating that they are one step away from going to Qatar 2022.

"Actually, it's a great team, it's a great group, and they deserve to go to the World Cup," said Pedro Gallese to a media outlet.

"I am excited and proud of the whole team. I thank all the fans who always support us, and we are one step away from returning to the World Cup," added the goalkeeper of the national team.

Possible opponents

As it is remembered, Peru has finished this South American qualifying round in fifth place, which gives them the opportunity to play the playoffs against an Asian team that will come from the playoff match between Australia and the United Arab Emirates a few days earlier. This will be a single match, on neutral ground, and most likely in Qatar in the month of June.
