Luego de 120 minutos de juego, Palmeiras was able to proclaim itself bicampeon of the Copa Libertadores, after winning 2-1 against Flamengo at the Centenario Stadium in Montevideo. With goals from their forwards, Raphael Veiga and Deyverson, the Verdao took the crown of the continent's top tournament. However, the goal scorers were not the only protagonists.

The defender and captain of the Alviverde team, Gustavo Gomez, declared to the press, after referee Nestor Pitana finished the match at the sports colossus. The Paraguayan national team player highlighted the commitment of all his teammates during regulation time and extra time.

"Our team today was very good, very focused, literally our team left everything on the field. We had to play like that, it was a Libertadores final," said the center-back.

Asked about the criticisms the team received at the start of the tournament, where they were not considered favorites, the Guaraní defender downplayed it and pointed out that many Brazilian fans and media were expecting the 'jogo bonito'.

"Tactically, it was always organized. A very well-coached team, we know what we play for, we respect our idea and that gave us the possibility of becoming champions," he said.

Remember that after the titles in 2021 and 2020, Palmeiras had its first one in 1999 with the guidance of the legendary Luiz Felipe Scolari, former coach of Brazil and Portugal.
