This Saturday, Chilavert also shared an unofficial post that marked his potential candidacy with 50% of the voting intention in the 2023 Presidential elections.
A champion of the Copa Libertadores and the world with Vélez (1994 against Milan from Italy in Tokyo), and a former player for French Strasbourg, Spanish Zaragoza, and Uruguayan Peñarol, had previously expressed his intention to compete for the presidency of his country. However, with his Christmas announcement, he seems to formalize his political intentions.
The reactions from his fans and detractors have flooded social media, making the football player one of the top ten trends on Twitter in Paraguay this Saturday.
"Paraguay is very hurt by liars, ignorants, thieves, double-faced people, and shameless individuals... I would vote for Chila. Let's see what he does, since we can't get any worse...," expressed one internet user (Javier Antonio Ortíz Méndez) in a publication from the newspaper ABC.
"Help!" summarized another, Numa Pompilio Airaldi de la Sobera, the controversial sentiment that the former Paraguayan athlete arouses.
On several occasions, Chilavert has stated that "people are tired of traditional politicians" and he predicts having an "advantage over them."
Although he has shown support for the traditional Colorado Party, the former goalkeeper declares himself "independent." (D)
