The Uruguayan Phoenix took a firm step towards the round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana on Wednesday by defeating Huachipato, led by Paraguayan Gustavo Florentín, 3-1 in a match where the substitutions were key to the outcome of the game.

After a boring first half, in which neither of the two teams showed clarity and with a very physical game loaded with fouls, Fénix coach Juan Ramón Carrasco made changes from his bench and from there he found the key to the goal that had been eluding him.

Luciano Nequecaur, who entered the field for the second half along with three other changes decided by the coach, contributed with a brace, the first at 53 minutes and the second at 62.

When everything seemed dominated by the home team, Huachipato launched itself into attack and found the reduction at 77 thanks to Juan Sánchez.

However, their hope of equalizing didn't last long, as Bruno Scorza scored the third at 81.

In this way, Carrasco made the right decisions and now Fénix flies calmly to Chile with a good goal difference for the second leg of the tournament's second phase.
