Paraguayan Lorenzo Melgarejo set to join Argentina's Racing Club
Lorenzo Melgarejo, who has been playing for Spartak Moscow in the Russian Premier League, will officially become a new player of Racing Club de Avellaneda in the Argentine football in the next few hours.
Blas Melgarejo, the player's father, confirmed on Monday in an interview with El Extra de Fútbol a lo Grande on 1080 AM that his son passed the medical test successfully and only a few details remain to finalize the deal.
"It was quite a long process, but luckily, everything is done. He would be traveling this weekend," said Blas.
The former Olimpia youth academy player, who has also played for clubs like Independiente de Campo Grande in Paraguay and Benfica in Portugal, will have a new destination after seven years in Russian football with the aforementioned clubs and FC Kuban Krasnodar.
Racing, one of the five big teams in Argentina, winner of the Copa Libertadores and Copa Intercontinental in 1967, is currently managed by Sebastián Beccacece.
Melgarejo has been training with other members of the Paraguayan National Football Team at the High Performance Center (Carde) for several weeks to maintain match fitness while waiting for his future in football to be defined.
