Olimpia President Talks About the Return of Paraguayan Football
Marco Trovato, president of Olimpia, had a long conversation with Fútbol a lo Grande addressing several topics regarding the return of Paraguayan football, the financial situation, and his recent proposal to implement the 5 substitutions rule, which was rejected by the Divisional of the Paraguayan Football Association (APF).
"We are shortsighted and stubborn when it comes to analyzing these football issues, here the directors decide, not the coaches," Trovato said about the recent rejection of Olimpia's proposal.
When asked if he gets tired of proposing things in Paraguayan football that don't get approval, Trovato was quite clear. "I will not get tired of proposing things. I've always done it and there was a time when they ignored me and ended up doing what I proposed," he responded.
The leader of Olimpia shared his point of view regarding the return of football. "There was a clear intention not to restart the championship this year and then they changed their minds, they wanted to delay it as much as possible," he said.
The financial fair play was also a topic of debate during the talk. "It's not just about paying salaries, they must show where they get the money from," he began. "Our administration is very transparent, I would love to see financial fair play in Paraguayan football," he added.
The economic situation in Olimpia is quite complex. "The deadlines are completely different, the players know the situation we are living in. By talking, they understood the situation," he explained. "We are looking for income, several plans, and different options that we will communicate once we define them," he added.
About the issue of salaries, Trovato detailed the current situation in Olimpia. "We are up to date with salaries in Guaranis. And regarding payments in dollars, we continue with the agreement with the players. Once football returns, we will continue with normal payments," he stated.
Regarding the return of Emmanuel Adebayor, Trovato revealed the latest update. "It's getting complicated due to transportation, but we are exploring alternatives to bring him," he said.
Regarding the departure of Miguel Samudio, the president of Olimpia explained that it was due to an economic issue. "We cannot break our budget and the decision was made not to renew with Miguel Samudio," he revealed.
Finally, he talked about the signings for the resumption of football. "We are sticking with the current squad, it's very solid and we don't need to make any additions at the moment," he concluded.
