The process of resuming football in Paraguay began this Tuesday with the inspection of two First Division stadiums after two months of sanitary quarantine due to COVID-19.

The Defensores del Chaco, the country's main sports venue and stage for top championship matches, is one of the venues that was visited by members of the Planning Committee of the Paraguayan Football Association (APF), to which the stadium belongs.

Subsequently, the committee, accompanied by an infectious disease expert, verified the Arsenio Erico stadium, home of Nacional.

The Gral. Pablo Rojas stadium, home of Cerro Porteño, which was also scheduled for inspection on Tuesday, will finally be inspected next week.

All fields will be subject to review except for the Feliciano Cáceres, of Sportivo Luqueño, which has been indefinitely closed since a part of its grandstand collapsed in 2018.

This inspection falls under the so-called Phase 0, which also includes training for the squads of the twelve clubs on prevention measures against COVID-19, which so far in Paraguay has left 10 deaths and 724 confirmed cases.

For Wednesday's schedule, a roadmap is planned that will include visits to the following stadiums: Dr. Nicolás Leoz of Libertad, Tigo Manuel Ferreira of Olimpia, and finally, the Rogelio Silvino Livieres of Guaraní, reported the APF on its website.

At the end of April, the Paraguayan government decreed a "smart quarantine" (de-escalation) in two phases, with the last one starting on May 25 and allowing the resumption of professional sports.

However, both football authorities and the clubs estimate that July or August is a more realistic date for the resumption of the Apertura 2020 championship, which was suspended on March 13.
