The experienced Jonathan Santana (38 years old), whose last professional match was on February 27, 2019 with Sportivo Luqueño, revealed that he will continue playing football professionally.
The World Cup player with the Albirroja in 2010 will play for Sportivo Trinidense in the Intermedia category. "I was considering quitting football, but the call from the Trinidense president motivated me because of the projects he offered me on and off the field," he explained in contact with Fútbol a lo Grande.
Santana explained that the decision to continue playing was made together with his family. "We discussed it with my people and I will continue playing. I am happy with this opportunity," he said.
The midfielder said that Trinidense is a serious club and that there are future projects. "First of all, I want to be a part of the team on the field. Then we will see where I could contribute with my experience," he explained. "I am finishing my coaching career," he added.
Santana also stated that the management at Trinidense is very good. "They are up to date with 100% of the salaries," he revealed.
Finally, he referred to the situation with the coronavirus. "It is worrying that some clubs are already releasing players, coaching staff, and club personnel," he mentioned. Adding that "health is the priority and then we can see the protocols to return to playing football."
