No more. Due to the economic impact of the new coronavirus, Belgian club Anderlecht has dismissed its assistant coach and sports advisor, Pär Zetterberg.

The 49-year-old Swedish, an emblem of the team for his playing career, was fired for financial reasons, as reported on the club's official website.

"Professional football, like most other economic activities, is facing a great challenge due to the COVID-19 virus epidemic. This has a major financial impact on the club's operation," the institution informed.

"That is why the management and employees of RSC Anderlecht are working every day to protect the club in the short term against the major loss of revenue caused by the championship break. Therefore, the club has decided to part ways with Pär Zetterberg. The Swede is and will remain a monument to RSCA," they added.

Zetterberg did not stay silent. "The club terminated my contract without much explanation. I'm not really sad, but yes, disappointed. (...) Does the club want to save money because of the coronavirus? Was it dissatisfied with my work? I really don't know, but that's how it is. Even if I don't understand it, I have to accept it," he told GVA, a Belgian portal.
