The Togolese Emmanuel Adebayor, recognized worldwide for his time at Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham or Real Madrid, is part of the delegation of the Paraguayan team Olimpia that is coming to Ecuador for the Copa Libertadores match on Wednesday, March 4 against Delfin.
The 35-year-old player, who scored 97 goals when he played in the English Premier League and was named Africa's best footballer in 2008, was signed last February.
In addition to the African forward, the list of travelers includes the Paraguayan goalkeeper naturalized Ecuadorian Librado Azcona.
However, the list is led by the striker and captain Roque Santa Cruz, who was Adebayor's teammate at Manchester City.
According to the Paraguayan newspaper ABC Color, the Olimpia delegation departed from that country at 13:00 local time on Monday for Manta, where the Group G match will be played.
The same newspaper mentions the concern of the club's management about the six confirmed coronavirus cases in Ecuadorian territory, however, the president of the visitors, Marco Trovato, commented before the trip: "They told us that there would be a possibility of playing behind closed doors by decision of the Ecuadorian Government. But we play on Wednesday, we play that day"
The first match of Group G will be played on Tuesday, March 3 with the match Defensa y Justicia-Santos FC. The program will be completed on Wednesday with the match between the Ecuadorian champion, Delfin, and the Paraguayan 'King of Cups', Olimpia. (D)
