Raúl Zapag, President of Cerro Porteño, spoke this Thursday on Fútbol a lo Grande following the early departure from the 2020 Copa Libertadores. The leader expressed that it is not a time for regrets, but rather a time to set new goals and restructure.
"It was a difficult morning, accompanying the team...( ) We mourned last night and today we begin to dream about the challenge that lies ahead, which is the Apertura championship," Zapag began saying.
"This is football, setbacks will be there. What we cannot do is stay there, in sadness, we have to assume the defeats, recognize the mistakes, face them and be in charge of what corresponds to me as president," he added.
Next, he confirmed that he will take over the leadership of the Cerro Porteño Football Department, where his brother Juan José, the current vice president, was in charge.
"The president is returning to the Football Department. I will come back fully committed to pushing forward the processes we started last year, continuing with the plans we had. We had stepped aside to carry out some functions, but now we are taking charge to be directly responsible for the good and the bad that happens at the club," he explained.
Raúl Zapag said that one of the first measures will be to find a sports manager or director for Cerro Porteño, someone who can provide technical input to the decisions made by the board and support the coaching staff. He avoided mentioning names of potential candidates, but he revealed that there are several in the pipeline and these individuals are not currently in the country.
