After winning 1-0 in the first leg at Atanasio Girardot Stadium in Medellin, the Colombian team lost by the same score in Tucuman with Leonardo Heredia's goal, but then won in the penalty shootout and joined Group H, where they will face Boca Juniors, Paraguayan Liberty, and Caracas.

After defeating Deportivo Venezuela in the second phase and now Atlético Tucumán, DIM secured a spot in the group stage in their ninth participation (1967, 1994, 2003, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2017, 2019, and 2020).

The home team, led by Ricardo Zielinski, put an end to their third participation in the Copa Libertadores, the first in which they failed to reach the group stage, a goal they had achieved in the previous two (2017 and 2018).
