Guaraní stumbled in their fight to keep up with the leader Olimpia. They were defeated 2-1 in their visit to Tapiracuái city.
Santaní, led by Robert Gauto, was superior to Gustavo Costas' team to achieve a strategic and important victory in their aspirations to maintain their category.
THE MATCH.
The first half had a very disputed game in the midfield with chances for both teams to score.
Santaní would be the first to strike through central defender Hugo Espínola, who scored with a header to make it 1-0 for the black and white team after 16 minutes.
Guaraní would equalize in the second half through a penalty that only referee Juan Benítez saw. Guillermo Benítez fell inside the box under the mark of Hugo Espínola and the referee bought it, allowing Claudio Aquino to score the 1-1 in the 50th minute.
Santaní quickly took the lead again after Juan Benítez awarded a penalty that Blas Díaz fired with power into the top left corner of Jorge Bava's goal in the 58th minute.
The score did not change despite some dangerous approaches by Guaraní in search of the equalizer that never came. Santaní triumphed 2-1 in a hard-fought match played at J.J. Vázquez stadium.
With the victory, Santaní continues dreaming of staying in the First Division. They move up to seventh position in the table with 18 points. Guaraní, on the other hand, remains fourth with 24 points.
In the next matchday, 17th, Santaní will visit Sol de América at Luis Alfonso Giagni stadium. Meanwhile, Guaraní will host Deportivo Capiatá at Rogelio Livieres stadium.
