Vaqueros Union Laguna officially starts preseason
Vaqueros Union Laguna officially started their preseason at Revolucion Stadium, in preparation for the 2017 season of the Mexican Baseball League.
The team arrived on Monday morning at 9:45 am, with pitchers, catchers, and part of the outfield presenting themselves on the field of the old stadium on Juarez Avenue.
The Torreon team has the goal of being a leading team, qualifying directly to the postseason, and fighting for the championship.
Vaqueros plays on March 31, April 1 and 2 in Monterrey. The opening game in Torreon is on April 4 at 8:00 pm against Rieleros de Aguascalientes.
At the first day of practice, batters like Ricky Álvarez, Carlos González, Jonathan Jones, catchers Carlos Mendivil and Alejandro Flores were present.
Odanis Martínez came for a trial from Vaqueros de Calkini, a subdivision of the team from Laguna in the Peninsular League.
The rest of the infield and outfield players are expected to arrive on March 5.
At the end of practice, team manager Ramón Orantes expressed that they have put together an excellent and competitive team.
"We are currently complete, I am happy and content with this new managing adventure. There are new people who want to do things right, who want to show themselves and demonstrate their baseball skills. That is the most important thing, that they have hunger and ambition, that they want to earn their place on the team," commented the strategist.
This week the team is focused on physical training, next week they will work on the bullpen. Preparatory games begin on March 11, with the first one taking place at San Fernando Stadium in Lerdo against Generales de Durango, a charity match for the Mapaches Baseball School.
