The Chivas coach expressed satisfaction with the performance of his players in the victory against the Eagles, in what was the 227th edition of the National Classic.
Matías Almeyda, coach of Chivas de Guadalajara, appeared at a press conference to comment on his feelings about his team's victory against América in the National Classic, corresponding to Matchday 7 of the Clausura 2017 of the MX League.
"I think winning it is always fundamental and satisfying. It had been six years since we won in this stadium. A streak has been broken and being part of this history is nice. In 20 years, images of this game will be shown, as I see it happens every time a classic is played, and I can tell my grandchildren that I was in Chivas and I was able to beat América," said the Argentinean.
Furthermore, the coach of the Red and White hopes that his players improve their effectiveness in front of the goal, an aspect that has prevented them from closing out matches throughout the tournament. "We create chances in the penalty area and this comes down to individual play. Sometimes the strikers are not accurate; it will come," he said optimistically.
With 14 points in seven matches played, Chivas is in second place in the standings of the Clausura 2017. The next game for the Red and White team is on Saturday against Jaguares de Chiapas, where they will look to secure their third consecutive victory to start their path to the Liguilla.
