A Santos Laguna is looking to break their streak of unfavorable results in their visits to León's Nou Camp, a stadium where they have not yet managed to win. Their objective for this weekend is to recover positions in the standings.
"We don't dwell on the fact that we are undefeated, but the idea is to maintain that while also winning."
That's the mentality that prevails in the team, stated Paraguayan Osvaldo Martínez, who said he only recently found out about Santos' lack of victories in that stadium, a situation he hopes will change in this Matchday 7.
"Santos knows what's at stake, we're on the right track, taking it step by step, match by match, the team will improve in what 'El Chepo' wants."
"And as I've heard Santos has never won at León's stadium, I believe we don't dwell on that, we want to go and we will do it with the mentality of earning three points," he explained.
He knows that they also have the debt of winning away from home, but "this team can play against anyone on equal terms, unfortunately against Tigres we missed the victory because we didn't have the finishing touch, the same against Chivas, they equalized in injury time."
"You are left with the feeling that we could have achieved 4 points in those matches instead of just two. We know that's how it goes, you win with goals, we hope that in the upcoming matches we have opportunities and take advantage of them."
He pointed out that despite being near the bottom of the table, León has what it takes to compete and that's why they need to be very attentive.
"They are going to come out with everything, supported by their fans, I think they have gone two or three games without winning, the pressure is on them."
"We have to go with that tranquility, do what we know how to do, keep possession of the ball, close spaces, because they have players of great quality from midfield up."
So far, Santos feels that they have lacked greater finishing touch, because "we have created many goal opportunities, but we haven't made a better decision in front of the opposing goal, I think we lack that calmness and making the best decision in the moment, that would change the story."
Even so, the Laguna team has remained undefeated, but with 4 draws, something that Osvaldo doesn't find particularly relevant:
"We don't dwell on the fact that we are undefeated, but the idea is to maintain that while also winning."
"We should also highlight that the team went to play at Tigres' home, the reigning champion, whether they played with their starting players or not is not our fault, and against Chivas, who are growing, we earned a point."
"It's valuable, it serves us, because when you can't win, it's better to draw. So I think we are on the right track, we must continue like this and keep in mind that this is just the beginning."
Osvaldo Martínez added that his adaptation is going well: "I'm doing quite well, my performance is improving step by step. Obviously, it's complicated when you change teams, get to know new teammates, and the understanding on the field is not the same."
"Santos knows what's at stake, we're on the right track, taking it step by step, match by match, the team will improve in what 'El Chepo' wants."
"But with the passage of time, you learn more about the way of playing, so little by little, I adapt to what Chepo wants, to the way he likes to play. There's nothing else to do but keep working."
Regarding his intention to be called up to the Paraguay National Team, he stated: "Now that Francisco Garza is the coach of the national team, he came to talk to me personally at the time."
"Also, when I was in Mexico, he said that opportunities were available for everyone, that I should keep waiting. If he calls me, I will gladly attend. It's my national team, we are not going through a good moment, we are fighting in the playoffs to qualify for the World Cup."
