Carlos López Chargoy: "I Won't Abandon Soccer"
Jaguares has not been doing well lately, between the overdue payments (which he said have already been paid), and the poor results that the team has obtained in the last few tournaments. Carlos López Chargoy, the team's president, confirmed how difficult it is to establish himself in Mexican soccer.
Despite this, the executive has no plans to quit soccer. It is known that he must sell the Chiapas team or Puebla, but he wants to keep one of the two.
"It's complicated, I have never regretted it, I love it, I really like soccer. It has been difficult for me at times (managing the teams), but soccer has always inspired us and we have moved forward," he said via telephone to La Afición.
He explained, "With one team, I think we can manage ourselves calmly. I have said it, if someone comes with an offer, I will consider it, and the most important thing is that we have time at the Federation to sell one of the two and we have to do it."
The high salaries of the soccer players, the fact that sometimes more money is spent than earned, he has overcome in one way or another: "Yes, it is a bit difficult, but we also know what we are getting into, it doesn't scare us, we have the ability to get through this. It has always been like this and we will continue moving forward."
Of course, the alleged debts to the Jaguares players continue to be a talking point, and that, according to their president, wears down his players, as it is a matter that has already been settled.
The executive clarified that, just as they have stated in Femexfut, the players are up to date with their payments and they only have to make a final deposit to Egidio Arévalo (now with Veracruz). This issue was established at the end of last year, just so that the team could participate in the Draft.
That is why López Chargoy stated that it is uncomfortable for these rumors to resurface again, which the players no longer appreciate, and that "it does bother and wear us out, but things were in order, I was complying with the regulations because I paid on time. I see that they just want to make noise and that's it."
He added, "My players are annoyed by this persecution, they are paid, they are working, and they are calm. Right now, we will focus on the sport. This persecution is annoying, but I have spoken with them to concentrate on their job and I will do my part so that Jaguares can perform as it should this semester."
An unresolved issue is that of Arévalo, who continues to complain. His way of acting has surprised López Chargoy.
"The interviews are done with malice and prepared, if I have a commitment that I will be paid on a certain date, then I have to wait for my payment. If the gentleman, in these controversies, said (that he would be paid) on this date and that date, and he was paid on the first one and the other one is due on January 30, well, I don't know how much he wants to bother. Besides, he should be grateful that I loaned him for free to Veracruz and that he can continue in Mexican soccer."
He insisted that "as explained today by the president of the League, the controversies were all settled together, there are two payments left for January 30 that will be made, which are not debts because they are like a commitment."
