Edgardo Codesal did not resign from the Technical Area of the Referee Commission due to a "crisis," said Héctor González Inárritu at the High Performance Center of the Mexican Football Federation.
"This area is always very complicated; crisis is always talked about, rarely the good things. So that there is no speculation, it was only the result of wear and tear, there is nothing else. There is no fracture, there is no specific moment where everything breaks, it is simply wear and tear in the relationship," said Iñárritu, who also revealed that "Gilberto Alcalá is leaving with Edgardo."
In recent weeks, the Commission had faced a 'revolt' of referees dissatisfied with their work; however, González referred to this wear and tear as something that could not be fixed; it is not that they (referees) demanded Codesal's departure."
The former referee had been the director of the technical area of the commission since November 2014. He was in charge of coordinating and preparing referees for the first and second divisions of Mexican soccer; "he (Edgardo Codesal) was not very happy with this anymore," Iñárritu continued.
Codesal found himself in a difficult position after the performances of the referees in the finals of the Apertura 2016. Both Tigres and América suffered from the mistakes made by the officials in the first leg as well as in the second leg.
"There is self-criticism among referees. There is always communication, there are always proposals, and you always have to listen to both sides," said González, who hopes that the new person in charge of the technical area meets the requirements, and "a former referee" is most likely to assume the position left by Codesal; he even dismissed the idea that "Televisa cannot impose someone on the Commission."
