Joel Sanchez: "Our team has a thirst for revenge"

Encouraged by achieving their first victory of the season, Joel Sanchez assured that his team has a thirst for revenge after not being able to have a good run in the Apertura 2016 last semester.

For the coach of the University of Guadalajara, both he and his players owe a good tournament to all the fans who continue to attend the Jalisco Stadium to support them in every match.

"I have no doubt that we will fight for the top. There are many things in our favor and we managed to maintain a clean sheet, something that cost us a lot in the previous tournament. The team looks much more settled in every sense and has a very strong thirst for revenge. We have a debt with the fans and with the people who are following the team. We have to be much better than what they saw today," he shared.

Although he showed optimism and excitement for securing his first three points of the season, the "Shark" acknowledged that his team needs to improve a lot when it comes to being in front of the goal, as they did not show the good finishing they had during the preseason matches against Potros.

"The team needs to be much more consistent in the opponent's area. In the preseason, we scored four goals against Juarez, three against Atlas, we were much better against Mineros and today it was not so clear. Based on what I saw in the preseason, I am not so satisfied today."

Now, with three points in the bag, the lion's helm is already focused on maintaining a good pace this week where they will play on a double date. "The double date is good for us, but in reality, it's three matches in very few days. The wear and tear is considerable for the players and we will have to manage it well. The team is aware of what each of the points at stake means," he concluded.

Leones' next commitment will be on Wednesday when they visit Coras Tepic and the following Sunday they will return to the Jalisco Stadium to face Bravos de Ciudad Juarez.

Fun Fact:

In the previous tournament, Leones did not win at home until the 15th round.
