Thousands of users in Mexico are more than alarmed, since from October 11th, several technology developers companies, such as Oppo, ZTE, Motorola and now Samsung, have joined in a massive blocking of phones that are not properly homologated and were acquired in the 'gray market'.

What does this mean? These brands have decided to completely block phones that have been irregularly imported with the purpose of being commercialized in another country.

"From October 11th onwards we will start blocking smartphones that come from the gray market, and that have been activated from September 21st, 2023 in Mexico", can be read in the statement from the same Samsung company.

In other words, if you bought a cellphone in another country or from an unauthorized seller, it will be blocked. With this measure, adopted by four of the main smartphone brands, the operation of smartphones that are not homologated to work according to the regulations of the national market is prevented.

Although this measure is currently only being applied in Mexico, it could be extended to Peru and all of Latin America: Motorola and Samsung have started blocking phones that were acquired in the 'Gray Market'.

What will happen to users who bought an 'illegal' smartphone?

Samsung has implemented a program to 'compensate' Mexican users whose smartphones are blocked. They will be given a coupon with a 30 percent discount to be used through their official website.

All that needs to be done is to contact Samsung at the phone number: 800 SAMSUNG (72 67 864).

What will happen to other users of brands like ZTE, Oppo, and Motorola? The companies will pronounce themselves regarding the measures implemented in Mexico.
