GUATEMALA CITY -- Defender Nicolás Samayoa is already traveling to Guatemala. He does so with his left arm immobilized. The towering player suffered an injury this Friday during the match between FC Politehnica Iași and Rapid Bucharest (2-3) in the Liga I of Romania.

Hours later, the Romanian team has published the diagnosis of the Guatemalan footballer, and although a fracture has been ruled out, the news indicates that he will have to rest for the next two weeks. That is to say, he will not be able to play with the Guatemala National Team against Trinidad and Tobago (October 13) and Panama (17).

However, the club has explained that Samayoa will be evaluated upon his arrival in Guatemala and his recovery will be supervised by specialists in the country. Mexican coach Luis Fernando Tena will have to decide whether to include him in the trip or to rule him out and call up another player.

'The suspicion of a fracture has been ruled out. Nicolás only has a sprained left elbow and a suspected muscular injury. His arm will be immobilized for two weeks, and a new MRI will be performed in 10 days', the club reported on its social media.

Nicolás Samayoa's injury problem adds to the absence of Marlon Renato Sequen, who has been removed from the national team, and in his place, José Mario Rosales has been called up. In addition, Carlos Mejía will be absent in the match against Trinidad and Tobago due to accumulation of yellow cards.

Guatemala will face Trinidad and Tobago on October 13 and Panama on the 17th of the same month, in the final matches of Group A in the Concacaf Nations League. The top two places in the group will advance to the quarterfinals of the competition and will fight for tickets to the 2024 Copa América USA.
