The Águilas del América, under Brazilian coach Andre Jardine, defeated the Tuzos del Pachuca 4-0 this Tuesday to confirm their leadership in the Mexican Apertura 2023 tournament.

Henry Martín, Alejandro Zendejas, Colombian Julián Quiñones, and Uruguayan Jonathan Rodríguez scored for Águilas, who dominated at their home, the Azteca, and reflected it on the scoreboard.

América had 70% ball possession in the first half and created several goal threats until they took the lead in the 42nd minute. In a rain-soaked match, goalkeeper Carlos Moreno lost the ball in a free-kick play, rescued by Martín, who scored for the 1-0 lead.

América pressed in the second half and in the 59th minute, they made it 2-0 with a pass from Martín, after which both teams let go of offensive opportunities. In the 87th minute, Moreno confirmed his bad night with another mistake; he left a loose ball and Quiñones scored from the right to confirm the rout. Lost, Pachuca conceded the fourth goal with a goal from Rodríguez, assisted by Quiñones.

América achieved seven wins, three draws, one loss, and 24 points, four ahead of Tigres UANL. Pachuca remained in fourteenth place with 11 points. A little earlier, Argentinian Rogelio Funes Mori scored a goal and rescued a draw for Rayados de Monterrey in Puebla's stadium.
