The Disciplinary Committee has revealed the sanction that will be imposed on Monterrey club due to a case related to the use of number 16 in the Apertura 2023. The Mexican Football Federation (FMF) announced that this institution will receive a fine for allowing both Celso Ortiz and Jesús 'Tecatito' Corona to use the same jersey number during the current season of the Liga MX.
The FMF made this decision public through a statement on its official website, in which Monterrey club is asked to make the necessary adjustments to resolve this situation, specifically requesting 'Tecatito' Corona to change his jersey number.
This incident is considered an administrative error by Club Rayados de Monterrey, as the assignment of jersey numbers follows a regulatory register. As a consequence of this action, the club violated Article 51, section r) of the FMF sanctions regulations and Article 91, section b) of the Liga MX competition regulations.
According to Article 51 of the sanctions regulations, the fine can range from 50 to 2,000 Units of Measurement and Update (UMAs). It is worth mentioning that one UMA is equivalent to $103.74 Mexican pesos, which means that the fine imposed on Monterrey club could range between $5,187 and $207,480 Mexican pesos.
This case reflects the importance of complying with the regulations and norms established by the FMF and Liga MX regarding the numbering of players, avoiding situations that can lead to sanctions and financial penalties for the involved teams. Monterrey club must take the necessary measures to resolve this problem and prevent future sanctions for similar infractions.
