Álvarez is one of the main promises of Mexican soccer. However, in recent years his performance has declined, which influenced his last match with the Mexican national team in July 2021.
Born in Los Angeles, Álvarez, whose parents are Mexican, has played four matches with the Mexican national team.
Tijuana is led by Miguel Herrera, the coach of the North American country in the 2014 World Cup.
