The first approximation of the match occurred in the 5th minute when Jesus Gallardo took a shot inside the area that went wide of the left post.

Five minutes later, Gallardo attempted another shot, this time from outside the area, and the ball went close to the right post.

In the 12th minute, German midfielder Hany Mukhtar scored a spectacular shot inside the area, but Guatemalan referee Walter López disallowed the goal after VAR review.

Spanish midfielder Sergio Canales attempted another shot from outside the area that was blocked by Nashville goalkeeper Elliot Panicco in the 20th minute.

Monterrey created a chance in the final quarter of the field in the 27th minute, ending with a shot from Érick Aguirre hitting the crossbar.

Monterrey goalkeeper Estaban Andrada made a key save in the 40th minute, blocking a header from Mukhtar with one hand.

In the second half, Monterrey took control of the ball, but Nashville found the opening goal in the 67th minute. Mukhtar assisted Sturridge in the area, who scored with a soft touch as Andrada came out.

In their attempt to equalize, Monterrey finally had a shot on target in the 85th minute. Jordi Cortizo found a ball at the edge of Nashville's area and took a left-footed shot that was deflected by Panicco.

Nashville goalkeeper made a timely save in the 90th minute, diving to his left to deflect a touch from Argentine forward Rogelio Funes Mori that was heading for the bottom right corner.
