The president of Pachuca Group, Jesús Martínez, stated that the Leagues Cup project is not currently profitable for Liga MX teams, as the prizes do not compare to what they could earn in the Copa Libertadores or Copa Sudamericana, where clubs earn much more money per game played.
In an interview with the ESPN network, Martínez Patiño expressed that this binational tournament has a lot to learn if they want to grow it.
"They are confusing people. It's not the business they say it is. It is more beneficial for me if the Libertadores returns, first for sporting reasons and then because one Libertadores match is equivalent to ten Leagues Cup matches."
In the Copa Libertadores, they distribute $400,000 just for playing a Preliminary Round match, while in the Group Stage they receive three million dollars for the six matches, plus an extra $300,000 for a win.

Leagues Cup, with aspects to improve
The leader also made it clear that the Leagues Cup project could work in the future, but only if they improve certain conditions.
"It's set to become a good project tomorrow. We are not convinced that it is a good project right now, not in terms of finances because it's too much risk for us, there are things to improve like logistics and how teams are treated, and it should be supported, and we will support it."
