MEXICO -- FIBA has announced the complete roster of Mexico for the 2023 Basketball World Cup to be held in August in the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia. The experienced players Paul Stoll and Jorge Gutierrez stand out on the list, as they know how to compete in tournaments of this caliber.

There are currently 24 players selected by the national team, led by coach Omar Quintero, who will have to narrow down this list to 14 players who will travel to the tournament in Asia.

The players selected by Quintero are Paul Stoll, Jorge Gutierrez, Moises Andriassi, Ivan Montano, Francisco Cruz, Orlando Mendez, Juan Reyna, Esteban Roacho, Gabriel Giron Jr., Gael Bonilla, Victor Valdes, Fabian Jaimes, Hector Hernandez, Jonathan Camacho, Juan Camargo, Israel Gutierrez, Joshua Ibarra, Daniel Amigo, Jose Estrada, Victor Alvarez, Alejandro Reyna, and Irwin Avalos.

With this initial list, the famous "12 Guerreros" began their concentration in Puebla, with the good news that Amigo recovered from the injury he suffered at the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador 2023 just last week.

It is worth mentioning that Juan Toscano-Anderson declined to play for the Mexican national team in the past March, as he intends to focus on his career in the NBA, a situation that coach Quintero respected.

On the other hand, Jaime Jaquez, who was selected in the NBA Draft by the Miami Heat, will not be part of the Mexican team as he plans to focus on the Summer League and earn a spot on the franchise's roster.

"Jaime will be with Mexico next summer, he asked to focus on the Summer League with Miami Heat this year. But next summer you will see him with the national team," said Quintero on Tuesday.

Mexico is in Group D of the FIBA World Cup with Montenegro, Lithuania, and Egypt. The first match of the national team will be on August 25 against Montenegro, on August 27 they will play against Lithuania, and on August 29 against Egypt.

This is Mexico's sixth participation in a World Cup, although only the second in the last 49 years. In the most recent edition in Spain 2014, they were eliminated in the round of 16 against United States, who would eventually be the champion.
