After the series of matches against Cuba and Colombia, the final list of 14 players for the World Cup will be announced.
The 32 teams that will compete for glory in the FIBA Basketball World Cup already know their opponents and the venues where they will compete.
The Mexican Basketball Team detailed the series of games they will have in preparation for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, which will take place in four venues in the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia between August 25 and September 10. The team will also have a farewell game at the Juan de la Barrera Gymnasium.
In a press conference, Omar Quintero, director of national teams, revealed the five games that will be played in July in Puebla, Merida, Torreon, Juarez, and Mexico City.
The “12 warriors” will face the Cuba and Colombia national teams after their training camp in Puebla, which will start in the same city.
The preparation matches will be as follows:
In Puebla: July 14 vs Cuba
In Merida: July 19 vs Cuba
In Torreon: July 21 vs Cuba
In Juarez: July 26 vs Colombia
In Mexico City: July 29 vs Colombia
Quintero mentioned that "on July 29, after the last game against Colombia, the final list of players who will travel will be announced, and everyone will have the same opportunities to show who can help the national team in the World Cup. The preliminary list will consist of 20 players, and the final list will have only 14 players."
Before their participation in the World Cup, they will have two friendly tournaments. The Kings Cup will be held in Jordan, where they will play against Angola, Portugal, and Jordan. Later, in Abu Dhabi, they will have another tournament where they will face Egypt and Lebanon in one group, and the teams of United States, Greece, and Germany in the other.
In the World Cup, Mexico is in Group D alongside Lithuania, Montenegro, and Egypt. All the games of the Mexican team will be played at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines, which has a capacity of 16,000 people.
