Mexican soccer team wins 2-0 against Guatemala in friendly match
The Mexican national soccer team, without its star players, struggled on Wednesday to defeat an organized Guatemala in a friendly match in the resort town of Mazatlán, on the Pacific coast of Mexico.
Raúl Jiménez, with a penalty, and Roberto De la Rosa scored for the Mexicans coached by Argentine Diego Cocca, who are getting ready to face the United States in the semifinals of the Concacaf Nations League on June 15.
In their first shot on goal, Raúl Jiménez obtained a penalty caused by a handball by Nicolás Samayoa; Jiménez deceived goalkeeper Nicholas Hagen for the 1-0 lead in the 13th minute.
Mexico relaxed for the rest of the first half and the Guatemalans came close to surprising the hosts with a header from Esteban García that was stopped by Mexican goalkeeper Luis Malagón.
In the second half, Cocca's team adjusted in defense but struggled to attack an organized Guatemala, who made a defensive mistake in the 80th minute allowing De la Rosa to secure the 2-0 victory.
