The Mexican Sergio Pérez, his Red Bull teammate and second-place driver of the season, finished in a distant eleventh position. 'Checo' Pérez, who comes from an impressive victory in the previous Azerbaijan Grand Prix, is only six points behind his teammate Verstappen and has aspirations to dethrone him from the overall classification lead on Sunday.
The young British driver George Russell achieved the fastest lap in the first free practice session of the Miami Grand Prix (United States) of Formula 1 this Friday, followed by his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton.
Imposing an unexpected dominance of Mercedes, Russell set a time of 1:30.125, leaving Hamilton behind by 0.212.
Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc was third, also surpassing Max Verstappen (Red Bull), the reigning Formula 1 World Champion.
The Dutchman, the current leader of the general classification, finished in fourth position after leading a large part of the first Miami training session, where he won last year's inaugural edition of this Grand Prix.
