Pachuca vs. Toluca faced each other last Sunday for matchday 8 of the Clausura 2023 of the Liga MX. With a goal from Camilo Sanvezzo in the last minute, the 'Diablos Rojos' took the victory by 2-1 at the Miguel Hidalgo Stadium. The negative result caused the annoyance of Guillermo Almada, coach of the 'Tuzos', who decided to lash out against the tournament schedule. For the 53-year-old coach, it was unfair that Ignacio Ambriz's team did not play a midweek match.
Pachuca only had two days to prepare for the match, as they played midweek against Mazatlan. "This matchday was atypical, it's the second time it happens to us, Toluca rests and we have to play against a very complicated opponent with less than 48 hours, it only happens in Mexican football," commented Almada.
"If we play the (double) matchday, we all have to play it, not just some yes and others no because for me there is an advantage. It seems unfair to me," added the Pachuca coach in a press conference. Let's remember that Toluca did not play their match on matchday 7 since their visit to the Comarca Lagunera was postponed to Thursday, February 23rd.
"We are sad about the result, not happy but satisfied with the performance. A very unfair defeat, we created many goal-scoring opportunities, the sin is in our lack of effectiveness and the mistakes we made in defense, like the play that ends the match. If we continue on this path, there will be more joys than sorrows," concluded Almada about the match.
Ambriz speaks out after the victory
Toluca coach Ignacio Ambriz emphasized that the victory against Pachuca was not a revenge for the lost final in the Apertura 2022. He also highlighted the hierarchy of Guillermo Almada's team, who suffered their first home defeat in the Clausura 2023 of the Liga MX.
"In front of us was the champion, it wasn't a revenge, it was a three-point match. We knew that Pachuca had a lot of intensity, that's why we made rotations, to match them in the back and forth and at times the match was like that. We made the right moves, sometimes they didn't, and they put us in our goal in the second half. In the end, we got a very favorable result in one of the most difficult stadiums," he pointed out.
