Important setback. The Pumas UNAM of Mexican football will not be able to count on Dani Alves, the Brazilian fullback, for their match, on Saturday, January 14, against Santos Laguna, in Torreón, in the second matchday of the Clausura 2023 tournament of the Liga MX.
Through a press release, the university team detailed that the player requested permission not to be part of the match, after learning about the death of a family member.
"The Universidad Nacional Club laments this sensitive loss of Dani Alves' wife," the information disseminated to local and international media said.
The World Cup player Dani, in the face of this difficult situation, will accompany his loved ones in this difficult moment. "We send our sincere condolences," concludes the statement.
Alves, despite his age, was one of the main players in terms of performance in the Apertura 2022 tournament. In fact, his performance earned him a call-up to his national team for Qatar.
After returning from the World Cup, the Brazilian re-joined Pumas' preseason. His last appearance was last Sunday. He came on in the second half in his team's victory against Juarez FC.
After the match against the Bravos, Rafael Puente, coach of the Auriazules, stated that Alves is among the best fullbacks and it is in that position where he will place the player.
